Day 1: Welcoem to Bangkok Today is the arrival day. An airport transfer is included, so please ensure that you have provided us with your flight details, so that we can orgnise the transfer which will be with a Local Guide. You will probably realise during your trip into the city that Bangkok is throbbing with life and noise. Nine million people live here and the streets are always buzzing. Once you are through the initial culture shock you will discover Bangkok’s many and varied charms - the exciting markets, the peaceful temples, the noisy nightclubs and the grand historic buildings. Your biggest challenge this evening is to decide where to eat, as there are hundreds of restaurants all serving delicious food! The local guide will help check you into the hotel, and the remainder of the day is free at leisure.
Day 2: Bangkok - City Tour (B) Today we include a half day City Tour. Please meet in the hotel reception at 8.30am, where you will be met by your Local Guide. We start by taking a tuk tuk from the hotel to the Grand Palace, one of Thailand’s greatest visual wonders, the Wat Phra Kaeo. This is Thailand’s holiest Buddhist Temple and because of that you must ensure you wear ankle length trousers or a long skirt, a top fully covering the shoulders and proper sandals or shoes (no flip-flops/thongs). The Wat Phra Kaeo Royal Chapel houses the Emerald Buddha, actually made of jade. The Thais believe that as long as they remain keepers of the Emerald Buddha, their country will be safe. The local guide will show you this and many other stunning buildings in the 61-acre site. Afterwards we walk to Wat Pho - the oldest temple in Bangkok, older than the city itself where Buddhist monks live. Wat Pho houses the incredible reclining gilt Buddha, which is nearly 50 feet high and 151 feet long with ornately inlaid mother-of-pearl feet. The compound houses the Traditional Massage School offering Thai Massage and Foot Reflexology – you may like to return here in your free time. From Pho Temple, we take a short walk to a local Tha Tain Pier, and take a local ferry on the Chao Phraya river, which has been the lifeline of Thailand’s ancient kingdoms and agricultural sustainability. We see traditional houses still perched at the edge of the river and its’ canals and may pass the Royal Barge Museum. We visit a flower market, and then head to China Town by tuk tuk or ferry. Here there is time for you to have lunch (at own expense) before returning to the hotel by long tail boat (or taxi if you prefer). The remainder of the day is free for you to explore Bangkok. You may wish to explore the Khao San Road, also known as backpacker central in Bangkok, a great place to shop. Or there are plenty more sights to be seen in the city. Please note that an afternoon city tour can be arranged if you prefer. Please advise this at the time of booking so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
Day 3: Bangkok (B) The stopover ends after breakfast today. A departure transfer is included, so please ensure that you have provided us with your flight details, to enable us to organise the airport transfer.
